Indonesia’s Health Minister is catching heat online after making a controversial comment about men’s jeans sizes that didn’t sit well with netizens.
According to CNA, Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that men with a jeans size of 33 inches or more are “more likely to meet God sooner.”

“Jeans above size 32 or more is definitely obese”
Budi later defended his comments, saying he wasn’t trying to body-shame, but merely trying to explain a health tip in a way people could easily understand.
Earlier that day, he had said that any man who buys jeans above size 32 or 33 is “definitely obese.”
“Those who are obese will definitely meet God sooner than those who wear size 32. According to the Health Ministry’s standards, a healthy waistline for men is 90cm or less,” he explained.

“I wasn’t trying to offend anyone”
Budi went on to say that an easy way to check if your waistline is healthy is by looking at your usual jeans size, with the 90cm figure he mentioned roughly translating to 35.4 inches.
After facing backlash online, Budi clarified that he wasn’t trying to offend anyone. Instead, he said he just wanted to explain the risks of belly fat in a way that’s easier for the public to understand, without using technical medical terms.
“Visceral fat usually builds up around the stomach. If it spreads to other organs like the heart or liver, it can be really dangerous,” he added.
