A video of a conflict that occurred at the Cheras Connaught Night Market in Kuala Lumpur has gone viral on social media, involving a Chinese internet celebrity named “Bai Rui” and a member of the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA).
Bai Rui later released a video response, stating that the footage circulating online did not capture the full incident and claiming that someone in the clip appeared to be impersonating an authority figure.

A RELA member claimed the internet celebrity “touched” him during an argument
According to the live footage released by Bai Rui at the time, the conflict occurred near the night market entrance. The video shows a member of the RELA security detail, wearing a RELA uniform and holding a baton, directing traffic at the scene.
During the live broadcast, Bai Rui said the other party shouted loudly, startling him.
“I wasn’t hit by a car, but you almost scared me to death,” Bai Rui told the RELA member.

The two then got into a verbal altercation, and the RELA personnel asked him to leave the scene. Shortly after, a man in black, who identified himself as an authority figure, joined the argument and accused Bai Rui of “touching the elderly person.”

Bai Rui denied the allegations, emphasising that he did not make any physical contact and that the entire incident was recorded live, which could be used as evidence by the police or for a replay review.
The video shows the man in black demanding that Bai Rui turn off his phone and stop the live stream, repeatedly shouting phrases like “get out” and “leave immediately.” Bai Rui continued to explain what happened, stating that he had the right to film and preserve evidence.

The atmosphere at the scene gradually calmed down, with some onlookers saying, “If there’s nothing else, let’s disperse.”
However, the man in black continued to demand that Bai Rui leave. Finally, a passerby persuaded Bai Rui to move on, saying, “Don’t block the way, it’s dangerous here,” bringing the incident to a temporary close.
Bai Rui apologised
Bai Rui subsequently released an apology video, admitting that he had handled his emotions poorly at the time and expressing his remorse for the public perception caused by the incident.
However, he emphasised that his apology did not amount to admitting full responsibility, pointing out that the video circulating online was only a partial clip and did not fully represent the actual course of events.
