Despite his apology and explanation, 59-year-old Pang Chin Tian, the viral hardware store owner in Penang, remains a little fearful after finding himself under fire over the upside-down Jalur Gemilang hung outside his store recently.
Chin Tian said that despite his blunder, he has always loved the country and has never missed hoisting the Jalur Gemilang outside his store every year during the National month. The recent happenings STILL don’t change his intention of doing the same this year.

“I have a little phobia after what had happened, but I’m still going to display the Malaysian flag this year, and in the coming years.”
“I’m a Malaysian, and I love Malaysia.”
Chin Tian was recently arrested by PDRM, but was later released on bail. Despite his release, Chin Tian said he is ready to face the consequences should the authorities find him guilty. He said that this matter wasn’t intentional, and after finding out about the upside-down flag, he immediately took a ladder to fix the flag.
“It’s alright. The police are investigating my case now, and I am ready to face the punishment,” Chin Tian told the media outside his store recently.

At the time being, a giant Jalur Gemilang is being displayed outside his store, courtesy of DAP and Anthony Loke, who supplied the flag to Chin Tian.
The matter is being investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Chin Tian recently said that he was measuring the length of the metal pole during the incident, and did not realise the position of the Jalur Gemilang.
