Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has addressed the recently published email thread in the so-called ‘Epstein Files’ released by the United States Department of Justice (US DOJ), in which his name was mentioned.

The email thread from 22 February 2012 between the late Jeffrey Epstein and an individual whose identity was redacted by the US DOJ has nothing to do with sexual misconduct or visits to Epstein’s infamous island. Instead, the email pertains to politics, with the redacted individual discussing potentially arranging a private meeting between Anwar and another individual named ‘Jes’, believed to be American banker Jes Staley.

Prime Minister stresses he has nothing to do with those who mentioned his name in the email thread between Epstein and a redacted individual

In a social media post, Anwar stated that he only found out about the email thread in the Epstein Files mentioning his name today, in which a foreign party wanted to arrange a meeting involving him.

The Prime Minister then stressed that several years after being mentioned in the email, he has nothing to do with any parties within the email thread, especially Epstein.

Anwar stated:

“I only found out today that foreign parties wanted to meet with me and even ‘plucked’ my name in an email involving the Epstein case 😅😅

Alhamdulillah, after several years, as mentioned in the email, I have no ties to any parties in the email thread, especially Epstein 🤢🤢. Okay, I want to continue sightseeing in Johor Bahru. #DoneExplain.”

In the aforementioned email thread, the redacted individual claimed to be close to Anwar and lauded Malaysia as a ‘gold mine’ for US investment bank JP Morgan, should Anwar become Prime Minister.

Epstein replied to the redacted individual by asking whether Anwar was thinking of coming to Europe in either March or April 2012. He added that a meeting in Malaysia in May 2012 was also possible, but would depend on the timing of the Malaysian general elections.
