Let’s face this reality – crowds of people, no matter where you are, make it difficult to enforce physical distancing rules.

Be it at the local bazaar or PPVs, SOP compliance appears to be on the wane despite a fierce spike in Covid-19 cases which has left Malaysia firmly in the five-digit zone.

This incident is no different, as a huge crowd convened in Perak just for the sake of free durians.

In a durian giveaway event that took place at the flyover nearby Hotel Damai, Parit Buntar, Perak, huge crowds can be seen lining up to get free durians, completely disregarding the basic SOP of social distancing.

Disgusted, netizens began piling on the hurt towards people who flocked the event at the risk of triggering another Covid-19 cluster.

“I hope the organiser gets fined. Just like what happened to another durian event organiser.”

“Come on people, let’s work together to increase Covid-19 numbers in the Kerian district. We are still peanuts compared to other places at the moment.”

With crowds completely disregarding SOPs, it is no wonder Malaysia will continue to see huge spikes in the number of those infected with Covid-19.

We are better than this, are we not?
