Kepong MP, Lim Lip Eng, has been kicked out of the Dewan Rakyat and received a five-day suspension by Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun after he said it was “stupid” of Deputy Speaker Azalina Othman Said for not asking Tiong King Sing to retract his statement.

Yesterday (11 November), Tiong, Bintulu MP, had accused Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah for not getting things done physically like frontliners do. “If frontliners can visit patients, why can’t the Health DG? Is the Health DG afraid to die?” Tiong said.

In today’s Parliamentary session (12 November), Lim’s remark caused an uproar in Parliament with many telling him to retract his statement and apologise while Azhar asked, “How can you say it’s stupid?”

Lim then accused Azhar of “conspiring with Bintulu (Tiong)” in insulting frontliners which prompted Azhar to order Lim to get out of Parliament.

However, Lim refused to leave the hall after which Azhar threatened to call the police and suspended Lim for five days.

“You’re too much, you know. Keep quiet and get out or I’ll call the police,” Azhar said.

At this point of time, Steven Sim, Bukit Mertajam MP, told Azhar not to do so as it would set a precedent.

After Lim left the hall, Azhar clarified that it was “not good” for him to overrule his deputy’s decision.

Lim is the second DAP member to be asked to leave Parliament in just two days.
