Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has addressed the viral incident at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2, where two foreigners claimed they passed security checks using fake passports.

Saifuddin said that after checks on the foreign tourists, a Bosnian and a Chinese national, it was confirmed they had used valid passports to legally enter and exit Malaysia.

The foreigners seen in the viral video entered and exited Malaysia with valid travel documents

BERNAMA quoted the Home Minister as saying that checks were also conducted with the Bosnian and Chinese embassies, which confirmed the passports were genuine.

He also denied claims that the checks shown in the video were carried out by Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) officers, clarifying that the video depicted checks at the check-in counter by auxiliary police before boarding.

“All records have been verified, including their entry records, the entry point used, and the validity of their travel documents,” Saifuddin stated, adding that the Home Ministry does not rule out the possibility that the duo knew each other.

Malaysian authorities are treating the foreigners’ actions seriously

The Home Ministry described the tourists’ actions as a serious matter. Investigations are underway to determine the motive behind it.

“We will investigate the motive, whether it was to tarnish the country’s image regarding security issues. If such cases persist, we will take action against individuals under existing laws,” Saifuddin stressed.

The Home Minister also did not rule out the possibility that the video was created for social media content, noting that a similar incident had previously occurred in Thailand.

The viral video sparked concerns among Malaysians

In the video, a foreign man and woman were seen undergoing a security check at KLIA Terminal 2, with auxiliary police inspecting their passports before allowing them through. The man later claimed the passports were fake, sparking public concern.
