The Community Service Division of the Melaka State Government has spent more than RM10,000 just to do a mass cleanup, fixing, and giving a new face to a home where 11 people live in, in Taman Rambai Jaya last Saturday.

About 70 volunteers spent a whole day cleaning up the house, which was filled to the brim with trash and dirty laundry that caused a terrible stench.

After the cleanup by the volunteers, 3 lorries were used to transport trash and other broken or useless items to the dumping site.

Harian Metro reported that the kitchen was in the worst state as it was the room that was most filled with trash and laundry. The dishes, pots and pans were all unwashed after being used.

Siti Norenliriana Mohd Fakeri, 30, is a single mother who lives in that house with her 5 children between the ages of 5 months old and 11 years old, along with the children’s father and siblings.

She claims that the house came into this messy state due to the lack of cooperation between the siblings.

“I have lived in this house for the past 3 years after moving in from a rented place in Limbongan. Although there are 11 people living here, everyone takes each other for granted, making me too exhausted to clean up after everyone. Hence, it came to this state.”

Norenliriana also told the press that she receives RM300 on a monthly basis from the welfare department. Besides that, the father to her children also earns RM1,500 a month by working as a helper at a public market.

The money he earns goes into funding their 5 children.

She also expressed that she wishes to work and prepare a better home for her children. However, her youngest 5-month-old daughter has limited her efforts in fulfilling her wish.

“Before the kitchen came to this state, I often cooked, but now I have to rely on their father to buy food to feed me and my children. To save money, we only buy food once a day.”

The family’s terrible circumstance was noticed by the third child’s teacher, who later informed the Community Service Department of the Melaka State Government. The authorities then took immediate action to help clean up the home.

“At first the teacher came to our home to ask how we were doing as our middle child was absent from school for a month. The excuse was that the student was being bullied by schoolmates.

“However, after witnessing the terrible condition of our house, the teacher sought help from the government body,” she explained.

For a home that’s occupied by 11 people, we can’t rely on one sole person to clean up the entire place. We must be considerate of others and clean up after ourselves too, ok!

Even if you’re living at home with your parents, we should always clean up after ourselves instead of taking our parents for granted.
