The news that we have all been waiting for as far as the Wuhan coronavirus crisis is concerned has finally arrived: a cure has been found. Since it began spreading across the globe, fears of the highly virulent and deadly virus have spiked among the general population, with many wondering whether it can be prevented, or better still, cured. After all, being a newly discovered virus, there remains much that we still do not know about the Wuhan coronavirus.

Well apparently according to SCMP, researchers working tirelessly in Hong Kong have already developed a vaccine against the deadly Wuhan coronavirus!

This comes after seasoned microbiologist and expert Professor Yuen Kwok-yung, who is also the chair of infectious diseases at the University of Hong Kong, said that his team have been working towards achieving a viable vaccine to stop the spreading of the Wuhan coronavirus. Their research has borne significant results, as they have managed to isolate the virus from one of Hong Kong’s first reported cases.

However, there is a caveat to this significant breakthrough.

According to Professor Yuen, “We have already produced the vaccine, but it will take a long time to test on animals,”. Which means that despite the fact that a vaccine has indeed been created, it will take time before the vaccine can be administered to human patients.

At this point, there was no specific time frame that was given by Professor Yuen as to the readiness of the vaccine, as animal testing will take months, while human testing will take at least a year before it can be released to the public at large.

The vaccine itself was modified from a nasal spray vaccine for influenza that was also invented by Professor Yuen’s team, but was modified with part of the surface antigen of the Wuhan coronavirus. In simple terms, this vaccine can both prevent influenza and the Wuhan coronavirus.

Despite the ambiguous time frame, we definitely think that such a huge breakthrough will be the answer to possibly stopping the spread of the Wuhan virus for good!
