Popular Hong Kong actor Louis Koo is planning to visit Malaysia to personally thank local fans for their tremendous support of his latest film, ‘Back to the Past’.

The plan follows the news that pre-sale tickets surpassed RM1 million, well ahead of its premiere night on 31 December 2025, setting a new benchmark for Hong Kong films in Malaysia.

The film is the continuation of a popular 2001 Hong Kong TV series

Back to the Past serves as a sequel to the beloved 41-episode TV series, ‘A Step into the Past’, which was broadcast in 2001.

The sequel features most of the original cast, including Louis, who reprises his role as special agent Hong Siu Long, a character who found himself trapped 2,000 years in the past.

In the new film, several new actors are introduced, sparking excitement among the fans who had been waiting for nearly 25 years.

“I know Malaysians are very supportive”

Louis Koo was pleasantly surprised to learn that the film had already achieved good pre-sale results in Malaysia before its official release.

“I know Malaysian fans are very supportive. I hope the box office will be even better so I can go and wish Malaysian audiences a Happy Chinese New Year in advance,’ he said during a press conference in Hong Kong, which was attended by the Malaysian media.

Since its premiere in 2001, the TV series has been considered a time-travel classic, generating continuous buzz and becoming a collective memory for those born in the 70s and 80s.

The film’s story picks up 20 years after the TV series finale. Hong Siu Long and his family have retired to the countryside, and his apprentice Ying Zheng has unified the six kingdoms.

However, Ken, a modern man, suddenly travels through time and attacks the King of Qin, attempting to seize the throne and become emperor, throwing the era into turmoil once again.

To those who have watched the movie, did you enjoy Back to the Past? (No spoilers!)
