A woman in Indonesia recently hiked up a mountain without a permit, only for her to witness the unexpected eruption of a volcano right before her eyes!

In a viral TikTok video, the woman said that she was on top of Mount Dukuno in Indonesia, alongside other hikers who were already aware of the volcano’s eruption.

“The smell of this eruption is… wow,” said the hiker, who reminded her followers not to duplicate this “professional stunt”.

When the eruption didn’t stop, the woman and other hikers started running for their lives. She recorded the journey down the mountain as the smoke began to cover the top of the mountain.

“That’s all and thank you. My first and only hike. I repented,” she wrote in the caption.

Before the hikers went down, some of them took the time to take some “aesthetic” photos on top of the mountain with the erupting smoke. In another post, the hiker posted an apology with a simple “Yes, sorry.”

“They were lucky they made it out alive”

In a statement by the National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) posted on its Facebook page, the Indonesian authority said that Mount Dukono is currently experiencing continuous eruptions and climbing is not allowed. Therefore, tourists or climbers are urged to comply with the instructions, especially the designated danger zone which is within a radius of 3 km from the summit.

They also confirmed that the climbing, which took place last Saturday (August 17) was UNAUTHORISED, and said the climbers were considered lucky that they made it out alive. Regarding the climbing incident of active volcanoes, the BNPB reminded everyone to ensure their safety.

“Professional? But you ran first”

Social media users were baffled to see the hikers risking their lives at the hand of the Mother Nature, and some also highlighted that they didn’t seem as professional as she claimed to be.

“One of the ways to approach your Maker.”

“I heard those in the location have been blacklisted from climbing the mountain.”

“Don’t show off. Anything can happen.”

“Professional, but you ran the quickest.”

“Professional, but you were the first to run. Why didn’t you face it?”

“The professional has been blacklisted.”

Hiking is undeniably one of the trendy ways to heal, but there’s a place and time for that. An erupting volcano near your location is definitely NOT the time.
