The recent price hike in the cost of cooking oil has left Malaysians shocked and calling for the government to do something about it.
Recently, the government’s Keluarga Malaysia Twitter page released a video meant to explain why the prices of cooking oil have increased.
The video featured 2 men having a conversation about the topic. One of them started the conversation by asking the other whether they knew that the cooking oil prices had increased.
The other man responds by saying that it’s not that the prices of cooking oil have increased, but it’s the fact that the subsidies on it have ended.
“The subsidy programme was meant to end by August 2021, but because of Covid, the subsidy was extended until June. Since the endemic phase has ended, the subsidy is not needed.”
The video ends with the man he was explaining to, thanking him for his explanation and saying that he will now buy be buying a few bottles of cooking oil.
“How much did you pay for this?!”
The video has gone viral on Twitter and currently sits on over 182,100 views at the time of writing. Malaysians took to the comments section to express their disappointment and anger over the clip.
Some users pointed out the horrible acting and low production value of the video.
“A feud between pro-wrestlers is much more believable.”
One user commented, “Hire me. I can do better than this. I always get an A for my presentations.”
“Did these actors get paid with a drink and some oranges?” asked one user.
Sunglasses to read the script on his phone
Meanwhile, some users pointed out that it’s obvious that the explainer who was wearing sunglasses was simply reading the script from his phone.
“Ahh the good ol’ textbook trick of wearing sunglasses to not make it look obvious that you’re reading a script,” said a user.
Another user commented, “Do you think that by wearing sunglasses, we wouldn’t be able to notice that your eyes are looking down towards your phone.”
What do you think of the actors’ performances?
