Ever since the PM announced that morning markets, as well as pasar malams, were allowed to re-open, netizens have been confused. While most missed their pasar malam, most of them were still worried about the risk these places pose without proper SOPs.

Shah Alam City Hall confirmed that the Setia Alam pasar malam will still not re-open. The Selangor government fears that this night market which is the longest pasar malam in the country might disrupt the Covid-19 recovery process our country is currently undergoing.

Out of the 30 pasar malam in Kuala Lumpur, 26 will be allowed to re-open while four others including Setia Alam are still under consideration. Shah Alam City Hall confirmed this as due to a large number of vendors in the market (700 stalls), and the large number of people visiting it, it would be hard to contain the crowd and maintain social distancing.

All approved pasar malam will be divided into two batches to avoid overcrowding. Sin Chew Daily reported that there will also be government officials there to assist the hawkers on the SOPs in operating based on the new normal.

Other SOPs include each stall should not exceed three workers and all of them must wear their protective face masks and have a disinfectant at their stalls. They also have to make sure customers maintain social distancing and make sure they check in with SELangkah.

“Each family visiting is limited to 2 people per family. Children below the age of 13 and those with body temperature above 37.5 degrees Celsius are prohibited from entering.”
