Ever since Our Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng announced that we have over RM1 trillion national debt, Malaysians had been heartwarmingly offering ways to help pay off the debt in their own way. From crowdfunding efforts, to little cash donations and MPs donating their salaries to the government, it looks like everyone really wants to help rebuild Malaysia. #MalaysianSpirit
Malaysians have been flooding social media and various MPs for an official channel to help with the national debt and it looks like they have heard our requests! In his latest press conference on May 30, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that the government has decided to set up “Tabung Harapan Malaysia” (THM) or “Malaysian Fund of Hope” as a way for Malaysians to donate, for those who want to voluntarily ease the nation’s burden. You don’t have to give anything if you don’t want to!
mStar reported that Dr Mahathir said, “We know some Malaysians want to help when they heard about the staggering debt we are facing and we welcome such patriotic efforts.” He added that the Ministry of Finance (MoF) would be responsible for handling the funds and directed Malaysians to channel their donations there if they wish to do so.
The MoF has released a recent statement addressing this issue and informed that those who wish to donate can do so by giving cash in Ringgit Malaysia only to their Malayan Banking Berhad account, number 566010626452. Minister of Finance, Lim Guan Eng ends the statement by expressing their sincere appreciation and gratitude to all Malaysians for all their support and concern.
So sweet to see Malaysians being so patriotic to help their country!
