It’s safe to say that Malaysia has lived through multiple forest fires, though they may not have happened in Malaysia (cough cough, Indonesia), we’ve felt the effects of it through the haze.
But, have you ever seen how the Malaysian authorities would put out a forest fire should it happen in Malaysia?
The Malaysia Coast Guard TikTok page recently shared a video of how the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritim Malaysia) assisted in efforts to put out a forest fire in Johor with an amphibious aircraft.
They wrote, “A Bombardier CL415MP amphibious aircraft of the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritim Malaysia) was flown to the location of a forest fire in the Sebana Cove – Punggai Bypass area to assist the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in carrying out firefighting operations today (October 17).”
“Assistance was provided after the Fire Drone Unit carried out aerial monitoring of the forest fire for 3 days and found that the area of the fire was spreading from an estimated area of 2 hectares to 32 hectares.”
Considering the scale of the forest fire, Maritim Malaysia received a request for assistance, leading them to carry out water bombing with the Bombardier CL415MP amphibious aircraft, which is capable of carrying 6,000 liters of water, to help extinguish the fire.
“As for today’s (October 17), the aircraft has successfully carried out 18 water bombings and will continue tomorrow until the entire fire is successfully extinguished. Nurul Hizam (the Johor State Maritime Director) also advised the public not to make the situation worse by doing open burning activities, especially near the affected area,” they added.
