As Beijing’s mercury is set to smash 37 degrees Celsius as summer looms by, local folk have sought the comfort of Ikea to escape the heat.
Images have emerged from Huanqiu, showing people taking advantage of the fully air conditioned home and furniture store.
You must admit – it’s a pretty creative way to beat the heat for those who can’t afford to use their air conditioning all the time.
In fact, this isn’t the first time IKEA had flocks of people heading to their stores in Beijing for purposes other than furniture shopping!
Just last year in June, IKEA was forced to issue a nationwide ban on sleeping in the store after hundreds of people contended for a spot on a plushy sofa right under the air conditioning.
Some of them made use of the company’s bedding to maximise their sleeping experience, even taking the courtesy to remove their shoes as demonstrated by the blissful patron below.
Summer in the Chinese capital has been hitting temperatures well into the 30s this year, and temperatures are expected to rise in the coming months.
In a way, this could be viewed as a very eccentric marketing campaign, no? All those people look like their catching a good snooze or two thanks to IKEA’s comfortable bedding and sofas. Free marketing anyone?
Though I’m sure most view it as more of an annoyance.
People who found about the news expressed their disbelief of doing such acts. Then again, are we really surprised tho? Just last week, Chinese citizens literally trashed the newly opened Shanghai Disneyland.
