In this season of economic uncertainty, many Malaysians are faced with the struggle of affording essential needs like access to healthcare. As citizens of one nation, we must do what we can to help each other during these challenging times.
One example is this poor uncle from Jitra, Kedah who works hard selling kuih on the roadside every day in order to afford an RM3,000 eye surgery that would fix his impaired vision. A netizen recently took to Twitter to bring attention to the uncle’s honest living:
“Uncle says he wants to undergo an eye operation as his vision has been deteriorating due to his diabetes condition,” tweeted the netizen while sharing pictures of the uncle preparing steamed banana kuih. “The total cost of the surgery is RM3,000 but as of right now, he only has a few hundred saved,” she continued.
The Twitter user then urged citizens around the area to support the uncle by buying the variety of kuih he has to offer. “For those who stay in Jitra, please go and visit his stall. He has steamed banana kueh, shrimp glutinous rice and coconut glutinous rice kueh. It’s all delicious! You can mix and match the kueh and get four pieces for RM2.00.”
Many netizens applauded the uncle for working hard to earn his goal despite his old age.
If you find yourself in the area, do support this uncle so he can afford his eye surgery!
