Whether it be our mothers or our grandmothers, maternal figures play a big part in helping us navigate through the trials and tribulations of life. And the best thing is, they will continue to remain by our side through thick and thin, and are often ready to make great sacrifices for our sake.

While we may never truly know the full extent of the story behind the heartwrenching pictures that have recently surfaced online, it is safe to say that they paint a thousand tragic words about how much one young man had loved and cared for his elderly grandmother.

The incident, which was said to have happened in the parking lot of the General Hospital of Mexico, Mexico City, happened when a young man was trying to arrange for his grandmother to be admitted after she started exhibiting symptoms of Covid-19 despite initially being asymptomatic. Leaving her to wait in the car, he was horrified to find that she was already unconscious when he returned to collect her.

Immediately without even thinking or fearing the risk of infection, the young man attempted mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on his grandmother in a last attempt to revive her, but she remained unresponsive.

Sadly, when doctors arrived at the scene, she was declared dead from Covid-19 according to El Diario de Nanchital. The photos were said to have been captured by Moisés Pablo, a contributor of Mexican photojournalist agency and magazine Cuartoscuro. It is unclear at this point in time if the grandson himself had been infected by Covid-19.

To date, Mexico has recorded 147,000 Covid-19 cases, with 17,141 deaths according to The Star.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased elderly woman and hope that her grandson would be able to stay strong during this difficult time.
