What would you do if you dropped your mobile phone into a lake or a large body of water? Well, one government official in India had a rather extreme solution to such a situation which ended up with him being suspended.
As reported by The Guardian, the government official, Rajesh Vishwas ordered a water reservoir in the Indian state of Chhatisgarh to be drained to retrieve his Samsung mobile phone which was dropped inside.
Millions of litres of water were then pumped over a period of three days from the Kherkatta dam so that the food inspector can retrieve the phone which he claimed contained “sensitive government data”.
Vishwas also claimed that he had contacted a sub-divisional officer for permission to drain “some water” into a nearby canal. The “some water” amounted to two million litres of water and could irrigate 1,500 acres of farmland.
After draining the water, Vishwas then enlisted divers to retrieve the phone but it ended up for nought as it was already damaged.
As of the time of writing, Vishwas has been suspended by the Indian government until an inquiry is finished as water is an essential resource that can’t be wasted.
