The federal government has now allowed four people to ride in one car for the duration of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri said that privately-owned vehicles can carry up to four people in a car, as long as they are from the same household.

“So the government has decided to allow private vehicles a maximum of four family members to travel together. But they must come from the same family, same household.”

Anticipating that people may take this opportunity to flout the SOP in place and bring friends in their vehicle, he warned the public to comply or risk closure.

Additionally, public transportation will also be allowed to operate but capacity will be limited to half, along with social distancing and personal hygiene measures put in place.

“To ensure social distancing is in place, we limit the capacity of the public transport to half. For example, if a bus is capable of ferrying 40 passengers, it means that only 20 passengers will be allowed to be on that bus at any one time.

“The same policy applies to LRT and MRT, each coach should see half of the capacity being occupied during the CMCO period.”

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri also urged members of the public to be the eyes and ears of the authorities by reporting anyone who flouted the new SOP in place.

“Even with our decision to reopen most businesses, people still need to adhere to the SOP. If they flout the SOP, they will face closure again.”

“If a person is tested Covid-19 positive, then the whole business will be ordered closure.”

“So the public is welcomed to help monitor by reporting those who flout the SOP to the authorities to help us break the chain of Covid-19 infection.”

Let’s hope that as members of the public, we take responsibility for our own well being during the implementation of the CMCO.
