A famous Indonesian preacher and internet celebrity is currently coming under fire for making a rude remark and mocking an underprivileged drink seller.

According to an X post by Inilah.com, this took place at a religious event where the preacher in question, Gus Miftah Habiburrohman, was on stage with several other preachers.

The drink seller, who was carrying a large tray full of cups of tea and water bottles on his head, was seen walking through the crowd present for the event when Gus Miftah decided to draw attention to him and humiliate him.

“You still have a lot of iced tea, no? Still? Yes? Go sell it, you idiot,” he said while laughing maniacally with the other preachers on stage. The vendor, on the other hand, remained quiet while holding his tray of drinks.

The vendor is working hard to earn a living for his family

As many took to social media to bash the preacher for his disrespectful and ill-mannered actions, an Indonesian influencer, Jhon Sitorus, decided to reach out to the drink seller.

Taking to his X account, he wrote, “It turns out that Mr. Sunhaji sells iced tea because he suffered a hand fracture while working at a wood-cutting factory. In the end, Mr. Sunhaji chose to sell tea to support his wife and 2 young children who are still in elementary and junior high school. Mr. Sunhaji and his family live in his in-laws house.”

“When Gus Miftah called Mr. Sunhaji an IDIOT, it turns out that Mr. Sunhaji had only managed to sell a few cups of tea at that time. He was merely trying to maximise the sales of his iced tea to support his family. How cruel of Gus Miftah.”

Gus Miftah has since apologised to the vendor while visiting him at his home, to which the vendor forgave him.
