Running or jogging both come with countless benefits, especially in terms of health. Unfortunately, many of us would much rather laze at home than go for a run outdoors simply because it’s boring.
Well, if this is you, here’s one way you could make running a lot more entertaining! Just take part in this super rare and incredibly magical fun run!
We’re referring to none other than the Unicorn Fun Run!!!
ICYMI, the Unicorn Fun Run series is organised by JomRun and it’s been ongoing since July of this year. Yes, it’s a series!
This Fun Run has been held at 36 different locations around Malaysia including Cyberjaya, Kota Kinabalu, Alor Setar, Penang Island, Seremban, Miri, Kota Tinggi, Segamat, and more, attracting almost 150,000 participants nationwide!
If you missed the past 36 Unicorn Fun Run events, or maybe you’re considering to take part again, we’ve got good news for you!
JomRun will be holding the FINALE event at Dataran Putrajaya on 15 March 2020.
It’s the very last Unicorn Fun Run, so don’t miss out!
“But why should I pay to run???”
Well, unlike many other runs and marathons (that would usually cost you between RM100 and RM200), the Unicorn Fun Run Super Happy Bird tickets (for the first 500 sign-ups) start from just RM18 for the 5km run, RM28 for 10km, and RM38 for 21km. Avid runners would know that that’s super cheap!
Sign up asap though because the Unicorn Fun Run Finale already garnered over 25,000 sign-ups on its first day of registrations alone!
While that does mean that there are no more Super Happy Bird tickets for the morning 5km run, the organisers have decided to open up 5km EVENING and NIGHT runs too! It will be happening on the same day; you can check out the flag-off time and prices below:
What’s more, regardless of what distance you sign up for, you’ll be entitled to all these goodies:
- Unicorn running shirt
- Unicorn medal
- Bib number
- Timing chip
- Refreshments
- Finisher tee (21km runners only)
How cute are these merchandises?!
If you’re keen to take part in this magical event and earn yourself an exceptionally unique Unicorn medal and t-shirt, here’s how you can register:
- Download the JomRun app for Android or IOS
- Register for a JomRun account
- In the app, search “Unicorn Fun Run Finale“
- Sign Me Up > Pay
That’s it! Once your payment is complete, you’ll receive an e-ticket within your JomRun app.
But, what’s the reason behind this Unicorn Fun Run series?
Organised by a startup company known as JomRun–which was founded by a 22-year-old Johor Bahru-born, Oxford graduate named Chang Yi Hern–their goal has always been to bring Malaysians together through sports and to encourage non-avid runners to pick up the sport and fall in love with it. Hence, the attractive Unicorn merch and easy peasy 5km runs!
As for the name “Unicorn Fun Run“, it was inspired by the term “Unicorn startup”.
“Unicorn startup” refers to any startup that reaches a US$1 billion (RM4.13 bil) dollar market value, which is something Chang aspires to achieve in the near future. Through this Fun Run, Chang also hopes to convey the message to Malaysians that they should “dare to dream, work hard, and believe that miracles can happen”.
As of now, more than half of the participants from the past 36 Unicorn Fun Runs are made up of non-frequent runners, while 80% of all the runners are females. Wow! #girlpower
Unfortunately, with that being said, all good things must come to an end but the Unicorn series obviously won’t be going out without a bang!
With the finale coming up, JomRun hopes to break the world record by getting 200,000 Malaysians to join the run.
In doing so, they would be breaking the official Guinness World Record of most participants in a racing event. The current record is at 116,086 people.
Meaning, if you join, you’d not only be getting some unique Unicorn merch, but you’d be part of a Guinness World Record too! Exciting!
If you’re interested to be a part of this, make sure you download the app for Android or IOS, and find out more here!
