Recruiting can feel like hell for some recruiters, candidates and hiring managers alike – come on, finding a candidate who is the right fit for a role you may have on offer is no walk in the park.
However, one business owner had the misfortune of meeting up with an entitled candidate in a WhatsApp message. And this jaw-dropping chat was shared by the sibling to Facebook.
Hara Lee wrote, “This is too epic not to share.”, and here is what happened:
In the WhatsApp discussion, Hara Lee‘s brother, who was a business owner, received a message from a candidate who wanted to apply for a Senior Content Creator position with his company.
“Hi, I’m interested in applying for the Senior Content Writer role. How much is the salary and can I work on flexible hours?”
Long story short, the reply from this candidate caught the attention of many Malaysians, given the sheer entitlement of the person, namely these replies:
- “Did you go to university?”
- “Can answer my friend question please, I want to see if this job meet my expectation or not”
Hence, the owner of the company gave probably the most appropriate reply by advising that this candidate needs to ‘go through intensive character development’.
Many who read the post shared their disbelief and similar experiences of such candidates.
One wrote,
“Last time I arranged an interview for an applicant and applicant was more than 20 mins late. The interviewers even waited for about 15 mins before leaving. When she arrived, I got blamed for not telling her where to park or that visitor parking is limited, which was why she was late because she couldn’t find a parking space. Aiyo eh. You’re supposed to research & scout your interview location isn’t it? The parking information was available online too…”
Other questioned the candidate’s application for a senior role when they’re only a fresh graduate.
Other Gen Zs who read this post as well assured that not every fresh graduate acts that way and ‘declines that this person to be a representation’ of their generation.
Well, we surely hope that person got their wake up call on how to conduct themselves professionally for their own sake. Tell us what would you do if YOU came upon such a candidate at your workplace?
