Health Minister Dr Adham Baba has said in a press conference that a total of 82,341 children were confirmed to have contracted Covid-19 in Malaysia.  According to BERNAMA, the breakdown of the numbers are as follows:

  • Children below four years old: 19,851 cases
  • Children from five to six years old: 8,237 cases
  • Children from seven to 12 years old: 26,851 cases
  • Teens from 13 to 17 years old: 27,402 cases

The minister said that none of the Covid-19 positive children were in the ICU as they were all either in category 1, 2 or 3.

In the main SOP file for this FMCO, it is said that children under 12 are only allowed to go to public places under these four circumstances:

  • Emergency
  • Treatment
  • Education
  • Exercise

In terms of education, only children that are in international or expatriate school who need to take international exams are allowed to go sit for them based on the schedule. Kindergartens and other preschools are not open to children unless both of their parents and guardians are working as frontliners or are in the essential services category.

As for exercise, the SOPs state that children and the elderly above 60 are not encouraged to exercise outdoors.

Dr Adham Baba has also said that investigation papers may be opened if parents are found to be negligent and are exposing children under 18 to Covid-19. This includes bringing them to high-risk places that are packed with people.
