We often take for granted the cabin crew staff that attend to our every need when we’re on board flights. Not only do they ensure the safety and comfort of every passenger, they’re also the ones in charge in the event of an emergency.

A quick-thinking flight stewardess became the hero of a female passenger who suddenly felt unwell and required immediate medical assistance when a plane took off from Chengdu, China last night.

The stewardess, who goes by the name of Zhang Qiqi, said she was just doing a routine security check with her colleagues before takeoff. All of a sudden, a female passenger pressed the call button and summoned her to the back of the plane, urgently asking her to suspend the flight due to a medical emergency she was experiencing.

“At that time, we made an emergency broadcast, asking if a doctor was on board. A doctor came over to check on the patient and told us that her pulse was dangerously weak and needed treatment.”

Zhang recalls that the woman appeared to suffer from abdominal pain. She looked really weak as both her lips and face were pale.

Following reports from Sin Chew Daily, the flight attendant was beside the passenger and calmed her down while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. However, when medical staff arrived at the scene, they realised that they couldn’t bring a stretcher on board due to the narrow cabin aisles.

Zhang immediately offered the solution of carrying the passenger to the ambulance herself. After asking the woman for her consent, the heroic stewardess picked up the passenger and ran through the aisle, delivering her to safety.

“I was only focused on trying to save her. When I looked back at the footage, I was also surprised. How did I have so much energy? I think it must’ve been in the spur of the moment”, said the attendant.

The flight then resumed take off after a 43-minute delay. Zhang thanked the other 175 passengers on board for being patient and understanding about the situation.

Kudos to you, Zhang! The world needs more selfless heroes like her. What do you guys think about this?
