A middle-aged man was saved just in time by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) after attempting to take his own life due to a family dispute by jumping off an apartment building in Kuala Lumpur.

It was reported that around 7 PM, the man was seen sitting on the outer ledge of the 18th floor with his feet dangling, seemingly preparing to jump.

In an interview with Oriental Daily, Kepong Member of Parliament (MP) Lim Lip Eng rushed to the scene around 11 PM on August 18 after being alerted by a resident about the man.

“Even though the police and firefighters got there quickly, they couldn’t start the rescue right away because the man was sitting on the edge of the wall with his legs dangling. They were worried that any sudden movement might put him in more danger,” Lip Eng explained.

He added that when he arrived, he did his best to calm the man down and keep him distracted while firefighters looked for the right moment to pull him to safety.

Firefighters bravely jumped from the 19th floor

After a while, firefighters managed to rescue him when they bravely leapt from one floor above.

“I followed the firefighters’ instructions and did my best to calm the victim and distract him. About half an hour later, three to four firefighters seized the chance when the man let his guard down and jumped from the 19th floor. They managed to pin down the victim, who was sitting on the 18th floor,” Lip Eng said.

The incident drew a large crowd of local residents and passersby, who applauded and praised the firefighters for their heroic actions.
