While it’s probably indisputable, Malaysia holds some of the tastiest and most diverse food options when compared to many countries across the globe.
Recognising such a trait, an English TikToker and YouTuber named Pat, who is one part of the online presence known as @veggiesontour, recently expressed his thoughts on how his home country doesn’t have flavours as delectable as those in Malaysia.
“Malaysia, home to some of the richest flavours in the world, you’ve got rendang, nasi campur, nasi ulam, roti canai. Can anyone tell me why, when the British left, they failed to bring back any decent food to Britain?” said Pat in the clip, referencing the period of British colonisation.
Listing some British delicacies such as jellied eels, haggis, mushy peas, and fish and chips, Pat continued to question what happened to “all the good food”.
“What happened to the trip back to the U.K. that they missed all this stuff?” he said in a light-hearted manner.
Towards the end of the TikTok clip, Pat opined that Malaysian food is incredible, and has much more flavour than U.K. food.
Many Malaysians were thoroughly unsurprised by Pat’s opinion, saying that people who live overseas often love the food in Malaysia due to its flavour and affordability, with one user even calling Malaysia “Food Heaven”.
Nevertheless, others stated that Malaysian recipes may not have returned to Britain due to the difference in tastebuds of those who came from the U.K.
“Well, my theory would be that they tried to bring back some, but they didn’t know the right way to use it as they aren’t familiar with the flavours. Again, this is just a theory,” wrote one user.
Another jokingly added that the British may have only brought the spices home, but not the recipes.
