This sounds so traumatising!

Last weekend, an elderly couple had the misfortune of getting trapped in an elevator at the Mydin Meru Shopping Mall in Ipoh for more than 24 hours according to The Star.

The poor couple who are in their 70s are reportedly so traumatised by the event that they currently aren’t speaking to anyone at all.

The husband and wife were stuck in the lift at 11.30am on Friday (30th June) morning all the way until 1pm on Saturday (1st July)!

Reporters gathered at the old couple’s Taman Meru residence after the incident, hoping to hear their side of the story, but they refused to speak.

The couple’s son-in-law told reporters that they are still traumatised by their experience, saying,

“They have no comments and it would be appreciated if you give my in-laws some space.”

“They are still traumatised by the incident and we have engaged a lawyer to take our next step of action.”

“Even the police came and they did not want to say anything to them.”

The couple’s daughter discovered they were stuck in the elevator when she went to the mall on Saturday to look for them.

She reportedly found her father’s car still in the parking lot and then went to the lift area with a security guard where she heard her father calling out for help.

Shortly after that, the old couple were rescued by the Fire and Rescue Department.

The poor couple were visibly weak after being stuck in such a small space for more than 24 hours, so they were taken to a nearby hospital where they received appropriate treatment.

Currently, Mydin is conducting an internal investigation on the matter. A spokesperson for Mydin Meru stated,

“The branch cannot give any statement at the moment. Our headquarters in Kuala Lumpur is investigating this matter.”

As of now, one of the couple’s family members has lodged a police report over the incident, while the mall in question has shut down all its elevators for maintenance work.

We’re glad that the couple wasn’t severely hurt and hope that they recover from this traumatic incident soon!
