Malaysia is full of small businesses run by the underprivileged, with many going unnoticed as people go about their day.
Feeling like he needed a boost, an elderly uncle running a cobbler business on a sidewalk in Ampang ultimately decided that he didn’t want to go unnoticed anymore and asked a random passerby to help promote his business on Facebook. And, it worked!
Netizen, Jimmy Goh, took to the 班丹区 Pandan Perdana / Pandan Indah / Pandan Jaya / Taman Shamelin public Facebook group to spread awareness on the uncle’s cobbler business outside of the Maybank branch in Bandar Baru Ampang, after the uncle had approached him for help to get the word out!
Jimmy wrote, “The day before yesterday, when I was withdrawing money from a local bank, I met this Malay uncle. When he saw me, he politely called out ‘boss! boss!’.”
“I asked him if he needed any help. He then asked me if I used Facebook and asked me to help him advertise (his business).”
It turns out that the elderly uncle had only recently started his cobbler business there but has yet to see any customers.
“He told me that he had just started here and was in the business of fixing various footwear, replacing soles and repairing shoes, and hopes that I could help to promote his business,”
“Seeing this old man waiting for customers, but no one came, I felt a little sad. So, without another word, I took a few pictures and helped him advertise his business since I was free that day. I hope my small action can help him. I also wish him good health and prosperity in the days to come!” Jimmy added.
As of the time of writing, Jimmy’s Facebook post has since received over 180 comments and 6,000 shares!
It is truly amazing to see how Malaysians are willing to help one another in championing livelihoods.
If you’re in the Ampang area and have shoes that require fixing, you can find this uncle outside of the Maybank branch in Bandar Baru Ampang (20G, 28G, Jalan Wawasan 4/5, Bandar Baru Ampang, 68000, Ampang).
A huge kudos to Jimmy for taking the time to help the Uncle. We genuinely hope that more people exemplify his actions and support small, local businesses!
