While many of us are celebrating Chinese New Year in our OOTDs, some people in Sabah & Sarawak don’t have the luxury to embrace the year of the snake in excitement.

Continuous downpours in multiple districts in Sabah & Sarawak have caused certain areas to flood after a landslide took place recently. The affected places include Bintulu, Serian, Samarahan, Kuching, Miri, and Sibu.

According to China Press and Sinar Harian, Sarawak was last hit by a flash flood 10 years ago but the ongoing disaster is the worst one in history.

32 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) were opened to accommodate victims affected by floods and 2 more PPS were opened for fire and landslide victims respectively.

A viral video shows a residential in Bintulu submerged in flood water as the rain continues to pour.

According to the latest information by The Malaysian Department of Social Welfare (JKM), as of today (January 30), the number of flood victims in both states continues to rise, and 5,767 flood victims have been evacuated from their houses.

Additionally, Sarawak Transport Minister, YB Dato’ Sri Lee  Kin Shin also reminded residents living in mountainous areas to be vigilant as continuous heavy rains may cause the soil to become loose and prone to landslides. He also hoped that the affected victims would notify rescue units to avoid accidents.

We hope the situation in both states will improve soon.
