The weather has been unpredictable in the past few months with sudden rain showers or heat that is so humid, it makes us all cranky.
In the last week, an 11-year-old child passed away due to heatstroke, reported Astro Awani.
This incident is now widely-circulated and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says that the Cabinet needs to discuss whether they should extend the school holidays due to the current presence of a heatwave in our country.
“I think it (school holiday extension) should be discussed at the Cabinet meeting.”
He continued by saying that they have actively sought out relevant agencies to monitor and help those who are suffering from heatstroke, reported BERNAMA.
Other than that, the DPM urged members of the public to take precautionary measures against the heatwave such as by drinking more water to keep hydration levels up.
“We advise those in areas affected by the heatwave to drink more water but I have been informed by the Meteorological Department that the heatwave will end in mid-May.
“So, I hope that even though this is new we have to be careful and take several health measures.”
Since this will probably last more than 2 weeks, we hope that everyone will stay safe and hydrated.
