The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has assured the public that Kuala Lumpur remains safe, despite the capital city recording 2 fatal shooting incidents in 4 days.

On 13 June, 3 men were shot at a restaurant in Brickfields, killing one and injuring the other two. 4 days later, in the early morning of 17 June, 2 men were shot dead at the lobby of a shopping complex of a mall in Cheras.

Commenting on these shocking incidents, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain was quoted by BERNAMA as saying that both cases stem from disputes between the suspects and the victims. He added that both incidents were targeted shootings with specific motives and are not random attacks.

Razaraudin asserted,

“As stated by the Kuala Lumpur Police Chief (Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa), these incidents involved targeted individuals and arose from conflicts originating outside the capital.

“The public need not worry as the safety of Kuala Lumpur remains under control,”

The IGP added that the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent has since intensified patrols and operations in the capital city since the incidents to ensure public order is maintained.

He stressed that Kuala Lumpur remains safe and that PDRM will ensure the security of the community is guaranteed.

Razarudin also welcomed any information regarding suspicious activities from the public.

Earlier this year, Kuala Lumpur was ranked the 3rd most dangerous city in Southeast Asia and 5th in Asia in the Crime Index 2025, a crowd-sourced online database of perceived quality of life metrics.
