A Malaysian college student recently took to Dcard to anonymously share how her fellow collegemates had made fun of her for refusing to go clubbing. They even went as far as to say that she was wasting her college experience.
She wrote, “My friends invited me to go to a club, but I said no. And they laughed at me and called me a ‘noob’?”
“‘If (you’re going to be) a boring college student, why don’t you just drop out and go home?‘, that’s what they said to me. They also called me a ‘good girl’ and said that I don’t know how to enjoy life!”
The student went on to explain that she prefers staying at home, watching television, cooking and sleeping. And, she has no intention of feeling dead after drinking all night.
“Drinking until you’re half dead at the club and having a terrible headache the next day is called living well? I always see them returning to their apartments in the early mornings like zombies, I really don’t understand what’s so envious about that kind of life,” she explained.
They also allegedly told her, “If you don’t go to clubs while in college, you’re going to college in vain!“.
“Hello, if I don’t go out to get drunk and high, am I not a college student? Just enjoy yourself, why do you have to dictate how others should live? I am happy at home, they don’t understand that. But, this doesn’t mean I am a ‘noob’. I am speechless,” she added.
Live and let live.
Many netizens believe that her friends aren’t worth keeping as they don’t respect her way of life.
“It’s not a problem. I don’t go (clubbing) either. Everyone has different sources of happiness.”
“They go to the club and get a headache while you sleep until you wake up comfortably at home. Who is the noob?”
“Everyone has their own way of life. You can disagree with it, but you have to at least respect it. What they are doing is disrespectful. Don’t pay them any attention.”
“In my experience, those who discriminate against those who don’t go clubbing are definitely bad people (they have an immoral private life or something).”
To this college student, we’d say: You do you! And a huge kudos for not giving in to peer pressure.
