Life was normal for this 37-year-old Singaporean man. Mr. Tang was happily married with a beautiful little son. He worked as an Uber driver to make a living and everything was going well for him.
However, life wasn’t very kind to this man. On 9th October, things took a turn when Tang suffered a sudden pain in his stomach and could barely breathe.
He immediately called for his wife’s help and they had to call an Uber to bring them to Singapore General Hospital.
“I was in very bad shape, I couldn’t breathe as well, it felt like my lungs were being restricted to take in deep breaths.
“I was immediately transferred to ICU and the doctors informed me that I would require immediate sedation so that they could insert a breathing tube into my throat.”
The poor man had so many tubes inserted into his body that he found it extremely difficult to talk.
“I couldn’t talk due to the breathing tube. I also had two pipes going through my nose, which the doctor explained to me that one pipe is a suction pipe to drain out dirty water in my stomach and another pipe is to feed milk into my body.”
When the doctor explained to Tang, his wife and his mother, they found out that he had so many illnesses. One disease had led to another.
After several weeks in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and ward, the worst possible news hit him.
“My kidney had lost its function and stopped working, I had to be on dialysis. The renal doctor mentioned, your kidney might wake up, it might not.”
“I was really worried and scared. I am only 37.”
One night, Tang’s stomach suddenly became very bloated and the pain got so bad it went all the way to his back. Doctors noticed his pancreas was so swollen that they had to operate him immediately.
“When I woke up, I was in the ICU again, but this time around, I had two tubes inserted into my chest and two pipes inserted into my stomach.
“The doctor told me that I actually stopped breathing during the operation and it was only after multiple CPR attempts that he managed to bring me back.”
Oh my gosh, that is so scary!
In total, the sickly man was stuck in the hospital for five months! He even fell into depression due to all his illnesses. But thankfully, he got better.
Tang got stronger and the doctors deemed him fit to be discharged.
“On 18th March, the doctor finally allowed me to be discharged, and took me off insulin injections and dialysis for a while.”
“I was so happy cos I finally got to go home.”
Though he got to go home, life just wasn’t the same again. Due to being bedridden for so many months, his body became so weak and he could barely walk.
Because of this, his wife had to stop working just to take care of him daily. Meanwhile, their child is being taken care of by Tang’s mother-in-law.
So far, the poor man has gotten some aid from the government, but it just wasn’t enough to cover many things.
“I hope to raise an amount of funds, so that I can ensure (my wife) that we will have enough cash to tide over this period of time. I hope it will reduce her stress.”
Unfortunately, things started getting worse for him as doctors confirmed that his kidneys have failed and that he should be prepared for the worst.
Tang is now hospitalised again with multiple tubes attached to his body once more.
Thankfully, many Singaporeans have come together to help raise funds for him and his family. If you wish to make a donation to Tang and his family, you can do so here.
WORLD OF BUZZ wishes him and his family all the best.
