Disabled people in Malaysia are truly hard-workers, after all, they have to take whatever job that comes their way because of their limited opportunities.

Hence is why it is truly sad to hear that a disabled uncle who is trying to earn a living for himself and his family by driving a taxi can only earn up to RM20 A YEAR.

Humanitarian, Ebit Lew took to his Facebook page to showcase the elderly uncle with one arm, and how he helped get his taxi fixed so that he can continue working without having to worry about it breaking down anymore.

He wrote,

“I stumbled upon this taxi uncle with one arm when I was around KL. His car broke down, lots of damage. He works eight hours a day but only earned about RM15 to RM20 throughout the year. Everyday he leaves his house looking for livelihood. 14-years of driving a taxi. He lost an arm from a road accident.”

It is unsure how the man survived on that amount – possibly through government aid. But thankfully, the kind Ustaz took helped the uncle with the fixtures he needed.

“Earlier, I took this uncle to the workshop and will pay for the damages. I’ll also give him some spending money.

“‘This is so much, Ustaz‘ the uncle suddenly burst into tears. This uncle works diligently. I hope his burdens are eased.

“He was moved, he said he did not expect me to show up and be willing to help him. He didn’t have money to repair the car. May his two children succeed in life lessons,” he added.

We’re happy the uncle received the help that he needed but are worried about the fact that the disabled community lacks support from the authorities when it comes to opportunities to work and earn sustainably.

Let’s hope that 2021 changes that.
