Not everyone will be happy with our achievements but as long as we don’t harm anyone, no explanations or validations are needed from others.
Last weekend, hardcore Harimau Malaya fan, Derrick Gan went viral on social media after he sold his motorcycle to fund himself to Qatar to watch the football match. For his enthusiasm, many have since offered to get him a brand-new ride before he even got home. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy with his fame and achievement, and the Facebook page, JDTFC shared a screenshot of a netizen’s comment that said,
“Can anyone even confirm if he (Derrick) is orang susah? Somehow, I don’t think so.”
The comment quickly got Derrick’s attention and on one of his recent Facebook postings, Derrick took the opportunity to clear his name and assured the world that he has never wanted to look for fame.
“Want to tumpang glamour? Be my guest but…”
In a statement shared on his Facebook, Derrick said he had never foreseen going viral over his spirit and love for Harimau Malaya. Most importantly, he had never asked to trade his old motorcycle with anything new.
“Did I ever mention that I’m orang susah? Did I ask the cameraman to focus on me? Did I even ask for the new motorcycle that has been given to me?”
Derrick also highlighted that he accepts the consequences of getting the fame, as well as all the reception from the people, but he has only 1 request.
“Don’t put words in my mouth. Things that I have never said are conspiracy.”
In the meantime, Derrick also welcomes the people to “catch the tide with his viral wave” if and only if they’re giving back to the public.
“You can do contests or giveaways of your products not just to promote your brands but to also help those who need it. We can definitely help others who need it more than me.”
Despite his fame, Derrick refused to take all the credit and said it belonged to everyone who was at the stadium during the football match.
Derrick may not be orang susah but his spirit and enthusiasm are susah to find! His intention to give others publicity to help others is truly admirable, and perhaps something that we could learn from.
