Deputy Minister of Works Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan is being encouraged to lead by example after making a point about cycling culture and subtly implying that people should cycle to work, especially for short distances.
Taking to his Facebook page, the Deputy Minister recommended that people who live near their workplace can cycle to work and shower at their office if they sweat during the journey.

He wrote, “I found an old bicycle at Royale Chulan KL on 30 March 2026. If you cycle to work and it’s not too far from home, it’s better to wear sports or casual attire. If you sweat (which is healthy), you can shower at the office and then change into your work clothes — common sense/logical thinking. In developed countries, this is normal.”
Ministers should do it first!
Many netizens took to the Deputy Minister’s post to not only call on him to lead by example but also encourage other Ministers and Deputy Ministers to follow suit.

“I heard that many Ministers live in Putrajaya. Ask them to cycle to their offices first. Set a good example! Their homes and offices are near. Make it a routine for 3 months and then maybe we’ll follow suit.”

“Start this with the Ministers. A good example from leaders. After that, then the people (will follow suit). In developed countries, it’s normal for leaders to be role models.”

“I hope Ahmad Maslan will do it first. Prove it to the people and the people will follow. Later, upload a picture of yourself riding a bicycle to the office.”

“Ahmad Maslan himself doesn’t want to do it but he’s asking the people (to do it). Such a bad example. If we’re a cold country, cycling to work can be done. But, we’re a hot country. You, yourself, don’t want to do it.”
