In today’s live MCO update by Defence Minister, Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob, it was announced that the government has made it mandatory for individuals working in red zones and CMCO areas to work from home starting 22 October.

Ismail Sabri responded with this ruling when asked whether the working from home was still encouraged by the government instead of being enforced. “It was previously a recommendation, but now it is a rule,” said the Defence Minister. Currently, the affected CMCO areas are KL, Putrajaya, Selangor and Sabah.

He added that it was the government’s decision for all employees in public and private sectors at management and supervisor level to not go into the office as they can and should work from home instead.

“About 1 million workers will be affected by this latest ruling,” he added. The full list of jobs that will be forced to work from home should be available on MITI soon, said the minister.

For those who are required to work at the premises, they will have to undergo swab tests.
