26-year-old Nurul Asikin Lan went missing in Kuching, Sarawak, on December 5, 2024. Yesterday (December 15), PDRM in Kuching found a decomposing corpse near a ditch at Jalan Setia Raja, believed to be Nurul.
Kuching District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee said PDRM arrested a 23-year-old male suspect yesterday, reported Kosmo.
“Suspect will be remanded until December 22 to aid in the investigation,” Farhan said.
The corpse was found by the public around 9 PM on December 14, who then alerted the police about the discovery.
In a Facebook post by Nurul’s relative, she shared that Nurul went out with a man she just met and had been unreachable through phone calls ever since. Based on her post, the man allegedly flew to Cambodia for a live football match, but the absence of Nurul raised more questions.
In the meantime, The Minister of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM), Hajah Nancy Haji Shukri, shared on her Facebook post and said she had visited the family of Nurul and provided financial aid of RM1,000, courtesy of the Yayasan Kebajikan Negara.
In the latest update by Farhan today (December 16), PDRM confirmed that the identity of the decomposing corpse has yet to be identified.
“We can only confirm the identity once the hospital is done with the post-mortem.”
Farhan also urged the public not to come up with any speculation as the matter is still under police investigation.
