The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will maintain midnight closing time despite recommendations made by the National Security Council (MKN) that businesses can remain open until 2am.

The announcement, which will impact restaurants and other businesses, was made based on DBKL’s observation of 7,200 premises, most of which need better compliance of standard operating procedures during MCO.

According to a statement released on DBKL’s Facebook page Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, the decision to maintain closing hours were made on September 11.

“The uniformity will allow for better monitoring of premises by DBKL and other agencies.”

The announcement for businesses to extend operating hours was made by the Senior Ministry (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on the 10th of September 2020, allowing all businesses, including restaurants and convenience stores, to operate until 2am.
