Well, it looks like the infamous Datin Rozita has finally been located! The 44-year-old woman gained notoriety for abusing her Indonesian maid Suyanti Sutrinso, 21 in 2016. Pictures of Suyanti’s terrible condition after suffering the abuse circulated online and people were shocked at the extent of her injuries.
Datin Rozita had pleaded guilty to causing grievous hurt to Suyanti in court but was only sentenced to a five year good behaviour bond of RM20,000 as the judge felt that she had repented. This verdict outraged Malaysians, as they felt that it was unjust and a petition was launched to bring her to justice, despite the court’s sentencing.
In just one week, more than 70,000 signatures were signed on the petition, “Dato: Equal Justice” and the numbers are still increasing. Following the mass outrage due to the sentencing, the Shah Alam High Court decided to review the Datin’s sentence on March 21.
However, the Datin and her bailor a Royal Malaysian Air Force official, could not be found on the day of the review and rumours flew that she had fled the country. The Star reported that the Immigration Department had also barred her from leaving the country, to prevent her from absconding.
The police finally managed to get news of her when they liaise with her lawyer. They said that they had went to both of her houses in Petaling Jaya and Melaka but was nowhere to be found. The police pointed out that the deadline was still not over as she had until March 29 to show up in court for the review. That’s just a few days more!
Her lawyer, Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad has finally responded and said that his client was still in Malaysia, the Star reported. He explained that she had actually went back to her kampung for medical treatment and switched off her handphone as she did not want to be disturbed.
“She wanted to cool down. That’s why she could not be contacted. Two days ago, she contacted us again and we arranged for the notice of hearing to be served on her in our office,” he said. He confirmed that they would be in court on March 29 and the police said that she has acknowledged the notice.
Meanwhile, Rosal said that as far as he knew, Rozita is a Datin but Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said that they never highlighted that she is a Datin.
Rozita had used a kitchen knife, steel mop and umbrella to abuse Suyanti until she suffered severe injuries on eyes, legs, hands and internal organs. She was reported to have a broken scapula, injuries to her right lung, a blood clot near her brain and a cheek fracture.
Guess we’ll have to wait for March 29 to see justice hopefully being served!
