Though there are some bizarre names out there, none is much trendier today than the name of Teemu Pukki.

That’s right, Pukki.

For the ones who’ve never heard of Pukki, ask any football fan, and they will tell you all you need to know about him and why he is such a household name in most Malaysian homes to date.

Former Premier League striker turn pundit Stan Collymore took to Twitter to discuss Malaysians and their fascination with Norwich-Finnish striker’s name.

The story of how Mr Collymore was advised by Stadium Astro to work a way to avoid saying Pukki when presenting was even picked up by The Sun

One netizen commenting on the tweet also shared his experience of being Pukki’s number 1 fan while on holiday.

“PUKKI! I wondered why so many people looked at my Norwich shirt funny when I went on holiday there.”

Other Malaysians also left some colourful puns (which will not be mentioned here) of the striker’s name. Another suggested that the name Pukki also means ‘Vagina’ in Tagalog!

What a universal name!

Not only a nightmare for local sports pundits in Southeast Asia, but the striker is also a walking terror for defenders in the English Premiership having bagged five goals in four games recently.
