This is just outrageous!
According to NextShark, two Chinese parents are being criticised online for stopping their 32-year-old daughter from getting married unless she pays for her brother’s wedding.
The daughter whose name is Tang Lu, was planning to get married two years ago. However, her parents told her to wait until her younger brother is married first.
What makes matters even worse is that her father also told her over the phone that she needed to give 100,000 yuan (approximately RM62,200) to her brother!
Apparently, the money will be used to buy a new home for her brother (who is six years younger) since he will be getting married this month!
Lu said she was raised primarily by her grandmother since her parents didn’t pay much attention to her when she was a child.
“I don’t owe anything to this family, why should I pay such a big amount of money?”
Lu’s father however argued otherwise, saying,
“He’s her brother by blood, she has to care [about him].”
“She must give the money, and not a penny less. It’s the responsibility of an older sister.”
Many outraged Chinese netizens pointed out that Lu’s experience is sadly a common thing women go through in Chinese families.
We hope Lu finds a way out of this situation!
