We often joke about the most outrageous things we can do to get big fast cash. But of course, jokes are jokes.
However, in this case the woman did pull off a crazy stunt to earn herself some money. And that’s by selling her eggs, and for an absurd amount of money at that!
According to SCMP, it was found that a university student successfully sold 20 of her eggs for a total sum of 250,000 yuan (RM 181,445) through the black market.
A Shanghai Television reporter went undercover and posed as an egg donor infiltrating the black market. She then met a broker on the 19th of February. The hidden camera footage shows the undercover reporter, along with several other women waiting in line to be interviewed by the broker.
The reporter was asked several questions, including details of her personal life such as family’s medical history and exam scores. Usually potential donors would attempt to negotiate their way to the highest possible offer by using their appearance, health and education.
A woman that the undercover reporter remained in contact with is reportedly a university student from Shanghai. She had sold as much as 20 eggs for 250,000 yuan (RM 181,445), and went on to purchase an iPhone 7 with some of the money. The student was quoted saying :
“I don’t think there is any risk to this, another girl who I came here with is doing it for the second time.”
The shady chart goes to an all time high when it was found out that the egg harvesting procedure is taking place in an office building, instead of a hospital. Yikes!
The reporter was told that the surgeons are from top tier mainland hospitals and the process is quick and absolutely safe with no risk. Instant payment is also given as soon as the eggs are harvested.
Despite the broker assuring that there is no risk during the process, medical health expert held that donors who undergo these procedures in unregulated condition is at a high risk of developing hyper-stimulation syndrome, which is life threatening in extreme cases.
