A woman in Yunnan, China unexpectedly gained fame after her heroic act went viral on Douyin. The woman was immersed in her skincare routine by the pool, only to learn that fate had something else for her “me-time”.
With her sheet mask on, the woman bravely performed CPR on a child who nearly drowned in the hotel pool

The incident happened on February 10 at a hotel and since then, the woman has been dubbed the “Facial Mask Heroine.” The 28-year-old Peng said that she brought her children to the hotel to visit her friend.
Just as she was applying her sheet mask by the pool, chaos erupted when a little girl almost drowned. The girl was pulled out of the swimming pool by her mother, but her face had turned blue.
Everyone gathered around but no one helped her, so Peng immediately contacted the rescuers and performed CPR on the child in her Cheongsam and face mask.

Peng performed CPR and chest compressions on the child until the latter spat out water, which gave her a huge relief. The emergency rescue team came about 3 minutes later and took over. Fortunately, the child survived.

In another Douyin video by Peng’s friend, Peng admitted that she did not think much about it at the time and just acted instinctively based on the first aid knowledge she had learned in the past.
“The moment I heard the little girl start crying, I felt my whole body shaking and numb.”
“The police then brought the little girl to the hospital for a check up.”

Reflecting on the night, Peng shared that she was originally not supposed to be there
“I wanted to visit the Chinese Academy of Sciences and go swimming at night with my friend and my children, but I changed my mind and went to the hotel instead.”
“If we had followed the original plan, we might not have appeared at the swimming pool at all, and none of this would have happened.”
In the video, Peng also told netizens not to put the blame entirely on the parents but highlighted more on keeping the children safe when they are outdoors.
