A 31-year-old man pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful stalking after he was charged in court on 11th November.

The Singaporean man, surnamed Wong, stalked and sexually harassed a teenage girl on Facebook in 2017 where he sent explicit texts to the girl including pictures of his private part.

According to Oriental Daily, Wong was infatuated with a girl on Facebook and added her as a ‘friend’ in March 2017. At the time, she was only 14 years old while he was 29 years old. Wong knew that she was underaged but he still sent her many private messages with most of them containing explicit words and sexually suggestive texts.

He asked her to be his girlfriend and said that he wanted to have sex with her. The girl, who cannot be named, kept on rejecting him but he still continued to send explicit texts, including expressing his fantasies.

This went on for about six months until August 2017. During this time, Wong sent the girl a photo of his genitals, which made the girl block him on Facebook.

However, he still did not give up as he managed to find her phone number in February 2018. He began harassing her again through SMS and other instant messaging applications, and even found her Instagram account. He also had about 5,000 friends on Facebook, most of which were young girls.

In one of the messages he sent to her, Wong asked the girl to meet up with him and even asked unashamedly, “Can I rape you?”

Additionally, Wong found out where the girl went to school, which made her afraid to go home alone as she was scared that he would appear at the school gate one day. So, the girl went to her teacher, who assisted her in making a police report.

Wong was arrested and during investigations, he admitted that he was very “sexually aroused” because he fantasised making friends with young girls, which is why he kept on trying to be friends with the victim despite her constant rejections.

Wong was not represented by a lawyer in court. He only said that he hoped he would be given a light sentence as he needed to take care of his elderly mother.
