Budget 2025: RM1.5k Minimum Wage to be Increased to RM1.7k, Effective February 2025

The minimum wage of RM1,500 will soon be history. 

During the tabling of Budget 2025 today (October 18), PMX said the minimum wage will be increased to RM1,700 effective 1 February 2025.

The government has also decided to postpone the enforcement of the minimum wage of 1,700 ringgit for employers with fewer than five employees for six months, effective from August 1, 2025.

In the meantime, The Ministry of Human Resources will also publish guidelines for starting salaries across all employment sectors for employee reference. For example, the starting salaries are as follows:

  • Industrial and Production Technician (RM2,290)
  • Mechanical Engineer (RM3,380)
  • Creative Content Designer (RM2,985)

The Progressive Wage Policy is the MADANI government’s initiative to reform the labour market with the aim of increasing worker income. This policy was implemented on a pilot basis in June and will be fully enforced next year.

A budget of RM200 million has been allocated for the Progressive Wage Policy, which will benefit 50,000 workers.
