During the past few years, the popularity of Electric Vehicles (EVs) has steadily been increasing.
In the Budget 2024 that was tabled by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on 13 October, he says that the government will start using EVs as official cars starting 2024.
Other than changing up the cars, the government buildings in Putrajaya will also be powered by solar energy.
“The government will start installing solar panels on the roof of government buildings, with the cooperation of TNB and Gentari.”
This is in line with the effort to make Putrajaya a low-carbon model city.
Emphasis was put on developing the EV industry as the government will provide up to RM2,400 rebates to Malaysians earning under RM120,000 annually who purchase e-motorcycles.
Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Gentari and Tesla Malaysia have also invested a total of RM170 million in the local EV industry and will be installing 180 charging stations.
That’s not all as Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has also agreed to procure 150 electric buses and build three bus depots with a total cost of RM600 million to support the LRT3 project which will be continuing.
