It’s official, guys!
Just last week on 6th April, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak officially announced that parliament would be dissolved on 7th April in light of the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).
Shortly after the announcement, Barisan Nasional (BN) finally released their manifesto for the upcoming election over the weekend, about one month after the opposition coalition, Pakatan Harapan (PH) released theirs.
Earlier today (10th April), the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) held a meeting to discuss key dates like nomination and polling days, along with dates for early voting. They also discussed the electoral roll that will be used in GE14, according to the New Straits Times.
Now, the EC chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah just announced at a press conference that GE14 will be held on Wednesday (9th May), while nomination day will be on 28th April.
Early polling will reportedly be held on 5th May.
EC secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh told NST that they had received the notice of dissolution of state assemblies prior to deciding on the dates.
It was previously predicted that polling day would likely fall on 5th May (Saturday).
If you’re already a registered voter, be sure to double check your polling district before you head out to those polling stations. Remember, every vote counts!
