After the abrupt stepping down of Dr. Maszlee bin Malik as Malaysia’s Minister of Education, the void that he leaves behind has left many people speculating as to who the next Minister of Education may be. Well, apparently there has been speculation among some media outlets that our very own Tun M will be taking up the position himself for the meantime.

But hold your horses, because that is fake news! So if you’ve been hearing about it going around social media, tell your friends and family to stop sharing it, as it is revealed that our Prime Minister will not be taking over as interim Minister of Education, according to The Star.

In the press conference that he was hosting after chairing the special cabinet committee on anti-corruption today (Tuesday, 7th January 2020), Prime Minister Tun Mahathir addressed questions concerning the recent stepping-down of Dr Maszlee, saying that the decision was a mutual one made between himself and the previous Minister of Education.

“I’m not saying that he did everything wrong. There were some things he did that were right.

“But because of some other reasons, I felt it was necessary for him to resign, and he agreed,” he said.

He also added that it was his prerogative as Prime Minister of Malaysia to choose who will eventually take over the currently vacant position in the Ministry of Education.

So now that you know the truth, be sure to let your friends know about it too, in case any further misinformation spreads!
